Profile

A young doppelganger woman, Yolja Odoti is a proud soldier of the Confederacy whose power of shapeshifting into any humanoid creature makes her a threat to unwary enemies. Raised in one of the Confederacy's many high-tech industrial cities, but with ancestors hailing from a medieval-era world, she's learned to fight with both swords and guns. But, while she hopes to build a fearsome reputation among her enemies, outside of battle she's quite friendly (though she does usually put herself first), and enjoys tabletop and video game RPGs, partly because they provide opportunities to practice characters. She dreams of making a name for herself in the Confederate military, as well as on the cosplay scene!

Powers

Change Shape: Yolja can use her species' natural ability to change her physical form into that of another humanoid (though, "humanoid" doesn't necessarily have to mean what it's usually thought to mean- it includes not only the standard "two arms, two legs, and a head" construction, but also creatures such as harpies, nagas, and centaurs), non-robotic creature, between 4 and 8 feet tall. The change takes only a couple seconds, but it only alters her body's physical makeup- it doesn't make her any stronger or weaker, or give her any of the other humanoid's special abilities (unless she learns to use them herself). Nor does it change her clothes or other equipment- she must change clothes manually to fit each new form. The transformation can be detected by certain magical abilities (generally those involving "seeing the truth"). She can imitate an existing person who she has seen (with OOC consent required for her to impersonate a PC or player-tied NPC) but these disguises can also be detected by those with sufficient insight into the original's behavior. Identities that she commonly uses will be listed in +info Yolja/Forms (not an admin-locked file).

Cloud Mind: With this hypnotic ability, Yolja can make herself unnoticed by people in a given direction- however, those with good mental defenses can resist the effect, and she needs to continue concentrating to keep it up. Attacking or being hit by an attack will end the hypnosis and make her visible to all again. She tends to use this most often to make an escape, rather than to attack. (It also needs OOC consent to be used.)

Mental Defenses: Yolja is more likely to resist mind-altering effects, such as hypnosis, attempted against her, as well as attempts to read her mind in any way.

Weapon Skills: Yolja can use several different types of weapons, including knives, short swords, pistols and rifles. While fighting, she naturally tends to prefer stealthier approaches rather than going in guns blazing.

Other Skills: Yolja is highly tech-savvy and knows a good deal about computer networks and hacking. Also, as she needs many different outfits to fit various forms, she's learned a good deal about sewing and tailoring (a skill that she also often uses for cosplay). And naturally, given her species and her general interests, she is also a talented actress, even having taken some drama classes.

Flaws

Invested in Character: Yolja puts a lot of effort into creating new personas, both for games and for real life, and she doesn't like to see that effort go to waste by breaking cover and exposing the true identity of one of her forms. She'll do the best she can to make sure that she's never forced to reveal herself or change out of an assumed identity when others are watching, and she'll come up with ways to ensure that she can reuse identities that she likes a lot. This can cause problems if she ends up trying to salvage an identity after it becomes clear that she's been found out.

Can She Be Trusted?: As a shapeshifter, it can be hard for Yolja to earn people's trust- after all, she spends a good amount of time hiding who she is from her enemies, so she may be expected to have hidden some things from her allies as well. In addition, there's also the worry that an enemy agent who also happens to be a shapeshifter might be able to impersonate Yolja and go undetected.

Involuntary Shifting: If Yolja is heavily injured, she may lose control of her transformation- most likely, she'll just revert to her natural gray-skinned form, but she might end up taking on an entirely different form (though this will still be a humanoid of some sort). She will also reflexively transform if she somehow ends up in an inhospitable environment in which she knows she could survive with the right form- for instance if she's being drowned she would automatically become something like a Zora from Hyrule.

Food for Mass: Because Yolja can change size to some extent, she occasionally has to alter her eating habits in order to make it easier to take on a bigger or smaller form. She'll eat more if she's currently smaller, and less if she's larger. These strange eating patterns might be used to detect her more easily, if she's in a form that's too different from her normal size.

Insular Upbringing: Yolja's childhood home of New Stalingrad is a very sheltered city, whose view of the outside Multiverse comes mostly from the Confederate media. Thus, apart from her parents' homeworld, of which she's heard much, she doesn't have much firsthand knowledge of most of the Multiverse. Though she does put effort into researching other worlds and cultures when she needs to create a persona from a different world, she might not necessarily pick up on the details that come from growing up native to that world.

Proud of Her Work: Yolja is very proud of her costume designs and will get angry with those who insult them, or even the idea of cosplay itself.

Self-Preservation: Yolja may claim she's willing to die for the Confederacy, but that doesn't usually stand up to actual practice. She'd much rather keep living, and that means that when she thinks she's outmatched (which is often the case when she's forced into a head-on fight with no opportunity for trickery) she'll try to get away. This might cause her to be viewed as cowardly, which is not something she wants to have happen, considering her interest in building a strong reputation.
