Profile

A man of amazing strength, stature and poise; Tyrael is imposing in many sense of the words. His size and his presence of person is matched only by his strong dedication to Justice and Wisdom. While once he stood in the High Heavens as one of their mightiest warriors and their Archangel of Justice, Tyrael's pride and sense of ethics forced him to cast off the station in order to descend to Sanctuary as a mortal to help them in their struggle against the Burning Hells as a steadfast warrior and a brilliant leader. Most importantly, his time as a mortal taught him many lessons, fostering a deep appreciation for the way humanity fought onward in the most hopeless of situation. Deeply changed by his experiences as a mortal, Tyrael returned to the High Heavens as a mortal to take up the mantle of Wisdom in addition to Justice. Wielding his Runeblade, El'druin, he leads the High Heavens in the reconstruction of Sanctuary in the wake of Diablo's destruction.

Powers

  • El'Druin: An Angelic Runeblade known as 'The Sword of Justice', it is Tyrael's famed and feared sword. It is a unique blade, famed for being able to cut through any substance and strike down any foe in the hands of its master. The sword is heavily blessed and Truly Holy in nature; Tyrael can use it to do a variety of things ranging from breaking dark seals to shooting mighty waves of truly holy energy.
  • Angiris Council: The Forces of the High Heavens are governed by the Angiris Council. Their armies and their power are guided by this Council of mighty Archangels, and though he has fallen from his former status as one of the Archangels, Tyrael has served as Justice for the Council and now serves as Wisdom in the reconstruction of the High Heavens. This position allows him to call upon and command the armies of the High Heavens as his own.
  • Fallen Archangel: Even despite his self-imposed stripping of his Archangel Form, Tyrael is a fearsome opponent. His physical strength and combat prowess rivals even that of the mightiest warriors in Heaven, Sanctuary, and Hell. He heals at an above-normal rate, has an immense reserve of endurance, and maintains a keen sense of awareness on the battlefield.
  • Justice and Wisdom: Tyrael, though fallen from the position and having taken up a new mantle, maintains many of the ideals and philosophies of his old position while combining them with his experiences in Sanctuary, which imparted him with a great deal of knowledge. While not an explicit power, Tyrael has a very strong sense of Justice and a keen Wisdom from his experience in Sanctuary. He weaves these two attributes into all his actions, whether choosing the best course of action in an assault or reaching a decision about someone he's just met. Justice and Wisdom are the two philosophies which Tyrael has the strongest grasp over.
  • Inspiring General: Tyrael has a presence and stature that, combined with centuries upon centuries of battlefield experience, makes him naturally able to lead and command military forces. Armies can be made better by his command and he has a natural instinct towards the plans of action that is often best in a given military action.

Flaws

  • Haunted by Past Mistakes: Tyrael's mistakes haunt him heavily, even to this day. When Tyrael makes a Judgment that he feels reflexts a failure on him, he takes it deeply personally and it can shake him to his very core. Tyrael's personal failures are a heavy mantle for him to wear and, when shaken, he can be left unsure of how to act or what to do.
  • Mortal: Having removed his status as a true Archangel, Tyrael is now no longer immortal and undying. He can bleed, and like all men, he can die. This is a great weakness for him in comparison to the other Angiris Council, who when they die will go to Pandemonium and reform in time. Unaging, but mortal, means Tyrael can be killed in combat.
  • Imperius: Imperius, the Archangel of Valor and fellow member of the Angiris Council, and Tyrael are often at odds in their decisions regarding humanity and mortals. When the two disagree on the topic, their rivaling sway over the Council can lock it into indecision.
  • SCREW THE RULES, I HAVE PRINCIPLES: Tyrael was once the embodiment of Justice. So strong was his commitment to his station that he cast aside his higher existence to become mortal, in defiance of the order of the High Heavens. In this regard he is utterly uncompromising, even in the face of greater opposition.
