Profile

Tall, hulking, imposing and taciturn, Shockwave resembles nothing more than a giant, malevolent, robotic cyclops. Despite initial appearances, Shockwave is an extremely intelligent Decepticon whose knowledge spans across many fields: Cybertronian biotechnology, quantum mechanics, genetic experimentation, temporal/spatial manipulation and, of course, warfare. As Megatron's second-in-command, Shockwave has been responsible for countless feats of technological prowess - gestalt combiners, the Space Bridge, insecticons. This, along with his incredible devotion to knowledge and ruthless, amoral experimentation is what earned him the disparaging title of Megatron's 'pet mad scientist'. However, even if his mind is his most powerful asset, that is not to say Shockwave is physically weak: unlike many of his Cybertronian contemporaries, who mimic the human form as closely as possible, Shockwave's form is almost brutal in its angular simplicity. Lacking any morality or ethics, Shockwave has no master except himself and no goal beyond the acquisition of knowledge as, to the Decepticon, the old adage rings true: knowledge is power. His most powerful tool is his incredible perception of logic and cause and effect, a weapon that he wields as surely as his arm-mounted fusion cannon. This combination of ruthless pragmatism and formidable weaponry makes Shockwave someone that his enemies should never take lightly… and someone that his allies should never turn their back on.

Powers

CUTTING-EDGE INTELLIGENCE: Shockwave is brilliant. Quite mad, but brilliant. The Decepticon was responsible for the creation of the amazing Crysal City, home to Cybertron's scientific elite, along with many other less benevolent creations. Shockwave was responsible for the creation of Bruticus, his first combiner experiment, which he then perfected with the Constructicon gestalts known as the Devastators. Shockwave was also responsible for uncovering and reverse-engineering the ancient Space Bridge technology. During the war, Shockwave even created the cortical psychic patch, a horrific device that allowed him to invade the minds of captured Autobots. And, when invading their minds was not enough, Shockwave also created the Dinobots from Autobot prisoners. It seems there are no limits to his intelligence and the Decepticon is quite capable of turning his mind towards any task, be it military or scientific. While many of his creations, such as Bruticus, have been lost to him due to chaos of war, Shockwave still has the capability to call upon Devastators, to construct ground and space bridges, as well as the intelligence to create more formidable weapons and disturbing war machines providing he has an appropriate support base.

CORTICAL PSYCHIC PATCH: Interrogations could be difficult, Autobots had an annoying habit of expiring before giving up their secrets. Shockwave discovered a way of getting around this inconvenience by invading their minds directly. The cortical psychic patches are less of a patch and more of a direct hardline between Shockwave and another being. From there, Shockwave can directly navigate through their mind and retrieve anything he may need. Fortunately, this disturbing piece of equipment requires direct physical contact, that the target is restrained or otherwise immobile and can seemingly only be utilised on cybernetic lifeforms. NOTE: This is a Consent-based Power.

PRAGMATIC LOGIC: Shockwave's brilliant intelligence is only further enhanced by his ruthless adherence to logic. Shockwave accounts for almost any variable and his logical mind gives him an innate advantage when anticipating others. He is not infallible, however, as his obsession with logical plans and patterns can be blindsided by particularly random events - or his own emotional spikes. Still, with knowledge of as many variables as possible, Shockwave can figure out an excellent plan of attack, countermeasures against his enemies, or an experiment to further his objectives. Subjective power.

TRANSFORMATION: Like all Cybertronians, Shockwave has the capability to transform between his robot form and a vehicular mode. Given that Shockwave sees no reason to hide his true nature, as he resides on Cybertron, he generally holds to the form of a Cybertronian jet.

CYBERTRONIAN TITAN: Shockwave is tough. His intelligence is matched by his sheer size. His size makes him quite resilient but it is also a formidable psychological tool; some Autobots - and Decepticons - have made the mistake of assuming that Shockwave is little more than a hulking brute. It is not a mistake that is made twice. Shockwave can shrug off the shots of Autobot sidearms and brutalise his opponents with his fists and feet. He also shares the usual qualities of Cybertronian life - limited regenerative capacity and incredible survivability.

INSECTICONS: The same experiments that created the Dinobots from Autobot prisoners were first used by Shockwave to make a series of 'modifications' to a selection of Decepticons. From these modifications, Shockwave created the Insecticons and while many of them were destroyed in the war for Cybertron, Shockwave still has many more nesting in hidden crevices on planets such as Earth or in secret laboratories beneath Cybertron. Lacking in intelligence but fierce and obedient, they make the ultimate disposable shock troops. Insecticons can range from relatively small, scarab like creations that swarm over their enemies to large variants with the capability of tranforming between modes and going toe-to-toe with Autobot combatants (Therefore, their PL might range from 6 for the smaller models and 19 for the larger specimens).

FUSION CANNON - If all of the above are not enough to put the fight in Shockwave's favour, then the powerful fusion cannon that makes up his left arm should be able to even the odds. Something of a replacement for the arm he lost in Grimlock's maw, Shockwave gave up the general utility of a hand and replaced his entire forearm with a large cannon that runs off a backpack generator. No doubt an attempt to level the playing field with Grimlock's formidable strength, Shockwave's arm cannon is almost certainly capable of punching a hole through the thickest armor.

Flaws

MAD SCIENTIST: Something isn't quite right in Shockwave's neural net. Even Megatron was able to recognise that Shockwave lacks any sort of morality programming or ethical subroutines. And when Megatron himself came to the attention of Shockwave, in the brutal gladiatorial pits of Kaon, Shockwave's only thought was whether he could mass-produce someone like Megatron. Shockwave was not afraid to study the corrupting substance known as 'dark' Energon and also subjected prisoners to inhuman energon deprivation studies. Many of his creations have been… less than ideal. The gestalts are brutish titans, lacking in intelligence but making up for it in destructive power, and the Dinobots turned on him completely. Shockwave does not seem to mind - he can simply make revisions. Whether Shockwave's mindset comes from something innate to his Spark, or perhaps the result of some experiment with himself as the subject is unclear. In either case, there is a reason that Shockwave is known as the "pet mad scientist" of Megatron's ranks.

ENIGMATIC: Shockwave keeps to himself. He is the name mentioned in whispers, almost something like a bogeyman to both Decepticons and Autobots. Very few Cybertronians have any reason to trust him. Even Megatron recognises one simple fact - Shockwave will, one day, turn on him. During the war, Shockwave would play Autobots and Decepticons against each other in order to increase his own base of power. However, he was always smart enough to cover his tracks, leaving the Decepticons none the wiser.

ALOOF: Shockwave really only cares for his experiments. Everything else is just a distraction. Even the war on Cybertron was little more than a distraction albeit a useful one that allowed him to create all manner of devices. Even before the war, however, Shockwave lived on the fringe of Cybertronian society. At the best of times, he is simply… detached and clinical. Because of this, small things that seem to be unimportant may escape his notice.

VENGEFUL: While Shockwave may believe he has scrubbed his emotions away, and that he is purely driven by logic, he does give in to two things - rage and pride. This combination gives him a particular taste for vengeance. After Shockwave was barred from Crystal City, he returned with his creation - the first Devastator - and obliterated the entire city. When Arcee and Cliffjumper escaped his grasp, he followed them into a rapidly destabilising space bridge portal. Taking advantage of this idiosyncrasy, it may be possible to lure the Decepticon in to a variety of traps and situations which he has not had time to prepare for.

BIG RED BULLSEYE: Shockwave only has one eye. His sole red ocular sensor sits in the middle of his head, making him seem like a malevolent, giant robotic cyclops. While this confers no disadvantage to his visual perception, it is certainly a tempting target that has led to Shockwave's defeat on at least one occasion.

FREEZE-LOCKED: Extreme lows of temperature are detrimental to Cybertronian life. Even if Shockwave isn't completely frozen over, subzero temperatures turn his systems slow and make his reflexes sluggish. With prolonged period of exposure it can effectively immobilise him and, with more time, put him into an involuntary stasis lock. Bringing cold weapons to bear would almost certainly cause him to back off, if not outright retreat. Whether Shockwave will make the mistake of entering a firefight where that might be a problem, however, remains to be seen…
